Honeymoon Packing Tips
It's your dream honeymoon vacation: just the two of you on your first trip as husband and wife. You want to take everything. However, airline and tour company package restrictions as well as practicality dictates that you needs to limit your luggage to one or two pieces. How do you choose what you'll need without weighing yourselves down with mountains of luggage? How do you travel lightly, without adding extra stress? Consider these honeymoon packing tips:
-
Bring the right luggage. Even the most doting new husband (or wife) is going to get tired of lugging your suitcase all over Europe. Plus, how fair is it to expect him to carry all of the weight? Shop for luggage with wheels for easy navigation through airports and train stations. You can even list new luggage on your bridal registry.
-
Check the current security and airline restrictions. Don't get your honeymoon off to a rocky start with hassles at the airport security check point or by having to pay for excess luggage. Check well ahead of your departure for the current airline and security mandates. US security regulations may be found on the TSA Web site. (http://www.tsa.gov/)
-
Copy your important documents. Make two copies of your passport, travelers' cheques, and credit cards and leave one with a friend or family member at home. Place the other one away from the actual documents. This way, in the unlikely event that your purse is stolen, you'll have the numbers and other necessary information.
-
Pack a carry-on with enough for you to enjoy your first two days. Be prepared for your baggage getting lost for a day or so by packing a change of clothes – and that sexy new nightgown – in your carry-on bag. That way you can still enjoy your honeymoon while they are looking for your bags.
-
Send your sports gear and heavy hiking boots ahead via FedEx or UPS. Are you planning an active honeymoon? One that requires bulky special equipment, such as skis, snowboards, surf boards? Consider sending your equipment to your hotel ahead of your arrival.
-
Do your research. While colorful shirts and khaki shorts will fit right in on Waikiki beach, they'll make you stand out (and not in a good way) on the streets of Paris. And jeans at home may be comfortable, but in the humid Caribbean, you'll bake in them. Stop by the library or online tourist sites before you pack to learn the temperature and style of the country you're visiting.
-
Pack a surprise for the two of you. Make your honeymoon just that much more special by packing a surprise, just for the two of you. This may your new spouse's favorite coffee, a photograph of the two of you, or your mate's favorite pillow. It doesn't have to be expensive, just something that has meaning for you both.
