Honeymoons

Honeymoon SunsetHoneymoon . . . the word conjures up pictures of happy couples walking hand-in-hand along white beaches or lounging on the decks of cruise ships or exploring the best restaurants in Europe. No matter what you're thinking of when you hear the word honeymoon, you'll probably find that it's one of the most fun parts of the wedding to plan . . . and to experience.

But it does require some planning if you want it to be the flawless icing on a perfect wedding cake.

First, you need to decide who is going to be paying for the honeymoon. While traditionally, the groom's family covered the costs of the honeymoon, more and more couples are paying for this big trip themselves. If budgets are tight all around, then consider a honeymoon registry to help you raise the money to pay for the fabulous honeymoon you want.

Second, choose a location. This can be a hard decision but the biggest factor to consider is how much you can afford. You want to pick a location that you can afford without much of a struggle, and you need to consider in all of the costs, including transportation, accommodations, and shopping.

You also need to factor in your interests. If one of you enjoys browsing through art museums and the other person likes playing golf, then you'll need to compromise on a location that will let you enjoy both activities.

The best way to get the best deals on your honeymoon is by working with an expert or by going through a site specializing in saving travelers money. Travel agents are actually the best option because they will be able to help you plan all of the honeymoon details so you don't have as much to worry about.

Fourth, make all of the arrangements. You'll need to select a way of getting to your destination, a place to stay, etc. You'll also want to plan out some of the activities you're interested in doing during your honeymoon. Visit the web sites for attractions you want to visit. In some tourist spots, you can buy advanced tickets or make reservations through the web site while will cut your wait time down considerably.

After you've made all of the arrangements, you should be sure to have a print-out or other documentation that provides proof of the arrangements you've made. This might become important if there is a mix-up at the hotel or if a restaurant loses your reservation.

Fifth, start getting things ready early. With a wedding to pull off and a great trip to enjoy, you're going to have a lot of things on your plate in those last weeks so start packing, getting your traveler's checks and maps, and finishing your preparations in advance so you'll have less to do at the last minute when your stress level is already going to be high.

Finally, after everyone has gone home and you've opened up all the wedding gifts, you and your new spouse can go away together to whatever locations you've chosen and spend some valuable time getting to know each other all over again.
