Safety Precautions for Honeymoon Happiness

Groom Carrying The BridePlanning a honeymoon can involve juggling almost as many details as planning the wedding itself. The bad news is that some of the details can sometimes be overlooked because of everything else that's going on. You definitely don't want that to happen. Below are some tips for things you need to get done before leaving for the honeymoon.

If you're traveling outside of North America, you will probably need a passport. Start getting your passport at least eight weeks before you're scheduled departure time. When you go to apply, make sure you bring the right amount of money in the proper payment methods. Remember that most facilities do not accept credit or debit cards for these fees. Some will only accept personal checks, bank drafts, or money orders. If you don't have the proper payment, then you're going to delay the process. Also remember that you can expedite the process of your passport application but it will cost an additional $60.

You may not have given it much thought, but if you're traveling to some locations, you may need to make a visit to your doctor for some vaccinations. Many locations are prone to diseases that you would rarely come in contact with in your home country. Some of these diseases can extremely serious, even fatal. For example, if you're traveling to the Caribbean, you might want to get vaccinations to protect you from Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, Yellow Fever, Rabies, and maybe Malaria. You should also check your medical records to make sure you don't need boosters for tetanus and measles. To determine what vaccinations you might need for your travel plans, talk to your physician and/or visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's web site (http://www.cdc.gov/travel/vaccinat.htm). Keep in mind that these vaccinations should be done at least four to six weeks before you leave for your trip.

If you're using traveler's checks – a really good idea for traveling anywhere, then make two sets of photocopies of each check. This may seem ridiculous now, but if you've lost your checks, then you know how much easier it is to get replacements if you have proof of what you had. You should also take the numbers of your bank and your credit cards with you so if they are lost or stolen you can call these financial institutions immediately in order to minimize your potential damages. You should also make two photocopies of your identification, your airline tickets, your hotel reservations, and anything else that's important. Leave one set of copies in your hotel and carry another copy with you, preferably not in your purse or wallet.

In addition to these preparations, you should also provide at least one or two of your close friends or relatives with a complete itinerary for your trip, including the names and phone numbers of all the hotels where you'll be staying on your trip. If something would happen while you're overseas, then your family members would know how to get a hold of you and where you should be at any given time. Make sure to take the phone numbers of a few relatives or friends, plus your babysitter or pet sitter's numbers, so you can stay in touch. Don't just enter these numbers into your cell phone though because if you lose your phone you'll also lose those numbers.

While some of these precautions may seem to take the fun out of the honeymoon, the truth is that these steps will help ensure that your vacation is enjoyable from start to finish because they'll minimize the chances of something going wrong and ruining everything you've worked so hard to plan.
